About the poet......Matthew Arnold
The famous poet Matthew Arnold was born on December 24, 1822. He was the son of Dr Thomas Arnold, the famous headmaster of Rugby. Arnold had completed his schooling in Winchester and Rugby. He went to Oxford in 1841. After receiving his education, he joined a teacher job at Rugby. His wife Lucy Wightman was the daughter of a famous judge. He was honoured with the professorship of poetry at Oxford in 1857. "The Strayed Reveller and Other Poems", the first and famous collection of Arnold's poetry, appeared in the world of literature in 1849, got popularity.His main works include 'Strayed Reveller', The Forsaken Merman', Shakespeare (sonnet)', Tristram and Iseult', The Scholar-Gipsy', Merope, a tragedy', Empedocles on Etna', ' ' Thyrsis and Rugby Chapel',Dover Beach.
